After your men have gone through training, they are, in theory, ready for action. However, your men would perform much better if they could gain experience first.

The effects of experience

When your soldiers have had their baptism of fire they become battle-hardened veterans. In the next battle your men will face, they will be better prepared for the horrors of war, they will make less mistakes, they will gradually get to know the enemy. Experience is very important. You would do well if you do not waste valuable, experienced, men in battles that cannot bring instant victory.

How to gain experience

Up to 30% of experience can either be gained slowly by training your men, or quickly through large-scale military excersizes. The latter, however, might draw the attention of the neighbouring states and could thus inflict diplomatic penalties. Next to that, military excersizes are expensive.
